Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, OON is the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc, one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions. She joined the bank as an Executive Director in 2015 and, in January 2021, became its first female Managing Director and CEO—marking a historic milestone in the bank’s 35-year history.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Onyeali-Ikpe spent her early years in Owerri, Imo State, and attended the Federal Government Girls’ College. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Master of Laws from King’s College London. She has completed executive programs at Harvard Business School, The Wharton School, and London Business School, as well as a Diploma in Organizational Leadership from Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. She also holds an honorary Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. In 2023, she was conferred with the national honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Onyeali-Ikpe began her banking career in 1990 as a Legal Officer at the African Continental Bank, later serving at First African Trust Bank, Zenith Bank, and Standard Chartered Bank. Over the years, she has held senior leadership roles at Citizens International Bank, Zenith Bank, and Standard Chartered, contributing to complex transactions across sectors including oil and gas, manufacturing, aviation, real estate, and export.
In 2011, she joined Enterprise Bank as Executive Director for Lagos and the South-West region, overseeing retail and SME operations. Her leadership and restructuring work at the bank earned her recognition from the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).
Since assuming leadership at Fidelity Bank, Onyeali-Ikpe has driven remarkable growth, increasing the bank’s Profit Before Tax from ₦25.22 billion in 2021 to ₦122 billion in 2023. She has also led the bank’s international expansion, securing Central Bank approval to acquire Fidelity Bank UK Limited (formerly Union Bank UK). Passionate about innovation and inclusion, she has championed digital initiatives such as PayGate Plus and the Fidelity International Trade and Creative Connect (FITCC), which support SMEs and creative entrepreneurs globally.
Her leadership excellence has been recognized with numerous honors, including Banker of the Year 2022 by Leadership Newspaper and Champion Newspapers, Best Banking CEO Nigeria 2023 by the Global Banking & Finance Awards, and recognition among Nigeria’s Top 25 CEOs 2023 by BusinessDay. She also serves on key industry bodies, including the Financial Literacy and Public Enlightenment Sub-Committee of the CBN Bankers’ Committee and the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.
