Delphine Traoré is the Chief Executive Officer of the Africa operations of SanlamAllianz General Insurance (following the combination of the African businesses of Allianz SE and Sanlam Group) and has been a leading figure in the insurance industry across Africa. Originally from Burkina Faso, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business and Accounting (cum laude) from University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Science in Insurance Management from Boston University.
Traoré began her professional career in the United States with Ohio Casualty Group of Insurance and later joined Allianz in 2005 as a liability underwriter in Canada.
Over her career she moved into senior leadership roles on the African continent: in 2017 she became Regional Chief Operating Officer for Allianz Africa, and in November 2021 she was appointed Regional Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Africa.
Under her leadership the merged SanlamAllianz African entity operates in over 20 countries and aims to expand insurance access and resilience across the continent.
Traoré is also a strong advocate for financial inclusion and gender diversity in business leadership, having been recognised with awards such as “CEO of the Year” at the 2023 Africa CEO Forum.
Her strategic focus is on scaling pan-African insurance and risk-management capabilities, building local talent, and supporting inclusive business models that serve underserved markets.
