Christine Wu is Interim Co-Chief Executive of Personal & Private Banking at Absa Group Limited, having initially been appointed Chief Executive of Everyday Banking on 26 April 2024.

She joined Absa in January 2019 as a member of the Executive team in the Retail & Business Banking division, with oversight of customer value management — including strategy, value proposition design, customer journey, marketing, digital transformation and advanced analytics.

With over 20 years of experience in financial services, Wu is a chartered accountant (CA (SA)) and holds both a BCompt (cum laude) and a BCompt (Hons).

In her leadership role, Christine focuses on delivering client-centric banking solutions, embedding cutting-edge digital capabilities and leveraging data analytics to optimise business value and customer experience.

Under her direction, Absa has embarked on a major restructuring of its retail banking ecosystem — in May 2025 she and Geoffrey Lee were appointed interim co-CEOs of the newly formed Personal & Private Banking segment, reinforcing the bank’s ambition to provide a seamless, integrated banking experience.

Christine’s career path reflects a blend of technical financial discipline and strategic innovation, positioning her as one of South Africa’s rising senior banking executives, particularly in the digital-first era of retail banking.
