Josephine Anan-Ankomah is a distinguished Ghanaian banker with more than three decades of experience in commercial banking, treasury management, strategy and regional leadership across Africa. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and an MBA from University of Ghana and is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
Currently, she serves as Managing Director of Ecobank Kenya Limited and Group Regional Executive for Central, Eastern & Southern Africa at Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (CESA Region). In this role she has oversight of operations in 18 countries, accounting for approximately 30 % of the Group’s balance sheet.
Earlier in her career at Ecobank, Anan-Ankomah held senior positions including: Managing Director of Ecobank Gambia Limited (where she led the bank to market-leading status), Regional Treasurer for West African Monetary Zone countries where she oversaw a balance sheet of over US$3 billion, Chief Operating Officer for the West African Monetary Zone / East & Southern Africa, and Head of Corporate Strategy & Business Development for Ecobank Ghana.
She is a strong advocate for financial inclusion and gender-smart finance. Among her initiatives she pioneered the Group’s women-led business support programme, Ellevate by Ecobank, delivering tailored financing and non-financial services to women entrepreneurs across Africa.
